1986 - the idea of geographic profiling first occurs to Kim Rossmo
1988 - Kim’s research on geographic profiling begins.
1990 - first operational geographic profile produced.
1991 - CGT (Criminal Geographic Targeting) algorithm developed.
1992 - geographic profiling becomes officially recognized as part of VPD's functions.
1995 - Kim Rossmo defends his PhD dissertation on "Geographic Profiling at SFU.
1995 - VPD starts the world's first Geographic Profiling Section.
1996 - ECRI releases prototype of the geographic profiling software.
1997 - RCMP and OPP candidates begin geographic profiling understudy program at VPD.
1997 - First Version of Geographic Profiling software ships.
1998 - RCMP and OPP offer geographic profiling services.
1999 - ECRI releases Rigel Pro – Client/Server Java version.
2000 - British police offer geographic profiling services.
2000 - "Geographic Profiling" book published by CRC Press.
2001 - National Institute of Justice offers first program in geographic profiling for property crime.
2002 - The Netherlands police candidate begins geographic profiling understudy program.
2002 – ECRI releases windows based product – Rigel Analyst.
2002 - ECRI ships first Rigel Analyst to UK market.
2002 - RCMP offers geographic profiling services in Ottawa.
2002 - The Netherlands police offer geographic profiling services.
2002 - ECRI launches new website.
2003 - ATF special agent begins geographic profiling understudy program.
2003 - ECRI ships first Rigel Analyst to US Markets.
2004 - ATF offers geographic profiling services.
2004 - ECRI expands training offerings to other jurisdictions.
2004 - Geographic Profiling user forum launched.
